Scott Duffey - Graphic Designer & Business Owner

Scott currently works a day job at a design studio called ‘Listen’ based in Liverpool where he has worked for 7 years working on the digital art-based side of the design. While working the job there he has a job with his wife as a small print company and they create things like gift cards and band posters. They started this business from their room and kept building until in 202 they were able to a permanent space in New Brighton. The front of the space is a café where they hold events for the public showing off some of their work selling things like craft beer, wine as well as some of their prints and brings the community together to talk about some of their work.

Scott had a different approach to the lecture compared to other guest lecturers before him, instead of just following a script and focusing on a narrative Scott asked us what we wanted to hear about and was able to talk about it from that. It was a refreshing approach to it as I've not seen this done before by lecturers and may be something that could be applied to teaching in my future.

You could tell that when Scott was talking he was really passionate about what he does and the business he has built up from his room with his wife. It in a sense kind of re-installed my passion for the teaching work I have done before in the past and brought back the idea of that feeling that you get when you enjoy doing something and doing it to the best standard you can and the appreciation you get from it whether that’s from yourself or from others like the students.
